We have been quite busy over the last few months working with schools around Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire! With these bookings we have the chance to get out there and do some expeditions!
This is a great chance to really get out there in God's creation and share him with the groups, as we spend a few sessions over a couple of weeks building up the groups skills and finishing with an expedition to really apply what they have learned and get a great experience of the world created by God.
With this we have had the rare chance to go out on a biking expedition. Usually we have had our biking sessions as either a 3 hour long round trip or our tricky trail obstacle course, but with one of our groups we took them on a 20km biking expedition, dropping them off at a secret location, giving them a map and letting them navigate a route back to school!
We have also had some canoeing and sea kayak expeditions along the River Thames, starting at one point and exploring downstream, through locks (and looking at all the pretty houses along the way!).
So what have we been doing when not on an expedition?
Well over the last couple of months has been a good time for us to sort out and prepare all our activity equipment for the summer season, making sure it is all there and keeping it in good condition, replacing where needed and getting all the fix jobs sorted.
This is also the period where we have an opportunity to get a little bit more training in, the first year DisTIL team have been working on their BELA (Basic Expedition Leader Award) while the DisTIL + team have started their training on the Level 2 Canoe and Kayak Coaching award.
The plan for the next few weeks?
We have two big events coming up in April. Total Adventure Easter is coming up in the next few weeks and the second Out There in Him trip will follow, so look forward to the highlights of those next time!
