It's all in a day's work...

What a beautiful day for a paddle! - The sun was shining and the birds were singing and due to the recent rain there was a decent flow on the river. We headed out in our trusty crafts from Lechlade to Grafton. Practicing some of our essential paddle strokes but also some of our land based rescues. The first years improved their confidence in their Kayaks while the second years shared some of their experience and practiced more of the advance stuff we hope to use later in the year on more moving water. Thanks to Josh for his expert tuition good fun was had by all as we developed our seal launches and backward paddling.

The first years have been hard at work training in the noble art of session leadership and safety. Firstly last week they were training as wall leaders braving pretty harsh Autumn conditions, namely wind and rain, to master the Dragon wall. Fundamental principles were taught by James to ensure that the guys can safely manage a wall session, including dynamic risk assessments and thinking of self first, a bit alien to some of us as we often put others first. Well done guys, a tricky thing to do in the rain.
